The Cnocnafeola Centre is located in the heart of the Mourne Mountains between Spelga Dam and the Silent Valley, in an area of outstanding natural beauty.  It is situated amidst beautiful valleys and forests, and overlooking a dramatic coastline of cliffs and long sandy beaches.

Directions to Hostel:


From Dublin:  Follow directions for North/Belfast.  You will cross into Northern Ireland shortly after the Dundalk bypass (there are no customs or border markings) then follow signs into Newry City Centre.  From Newry, take

the A2 to Warrenpoint, through Rostrevor and follow

road for Kilkeel.  After approximately six miles

heading towards Kilkeel, there is a signpost for a left

turn to Atticall.  (The signpost is on the right hand side

of the road pointing to a left turn, signpost also has

B&B and community centre on it.  Follow road for three miles into Atticall village, go past church stop and

school on the left and the centre is also on the left

immediately after the school.


From Belfast:


Follow directions for Newcastle.  From Newcastle,

continue along coast, taking the A2 to Kilkeel.  In

Kilkeel, continue into the centre of town, on the hill

just before the traffic lights, there is a small road on the

right signposted for Atticall (Mountain Road).  Follow

this road for approximately three miles until you come

to a left turn signposted Atticall.  Follow road down

towards village and hostel is on the right entering the

village.


If coming through the Spelga Pass from Hilltown or

Castlewellan, follow the road towards Kilkeel,

pass Cnocnafeola Wood on the right and

continue until right turn signposted Atticall.  Take road down towards village and centre is on the right entering

the village.

The Cnocnafeola Centre has accommodations for

31 people in a variety of private and shared rooms.

All bedrooms are ensuite with modern facilities

and hot showers.

Amenities:


-Cnocnafeola Centre is a community project run

by members of the local community.  The Centre is

a registered charity and all proceeds raised are put

back into the local community.


-restaurant (with a seating capacity of 40 people) which specializes in locally-grown, good quality home-cooked food at reasonable prices.  It is one of the key selling

points of the Centre as it specializes in fresh, home-cooked food.  Menus are tailored to suit the needs of guests.  Catering services are available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.


-a large, spacious conference room is available for conferences, training, meetings, etc. for approximately

forty people.  It is fitted with fridge, toilets, sink,

kettle, and crockery.  Flip chart and projector are

available.


The Cnocnafeola Centre has been awarded the

STEM award for their commitment and positive

actions to reduce, reuse, and recycle.  They use

renewable energy, run efficiently, monitor

consumption, and grow their herbs organically.

Fresh local produce is used in the restaurant

and Fair Trade Products are used where

appropriate.  They also use bio-degradable

detergents and cleaning materials.  Guests are

asked to participate in their environmental

policies.
