How to find us 


Below, you will find directions to The Skylark's Rest from the Wicklow Way, Dublin Airport, Dublin city centre, as well as Dun Laoghaire and Rosslare ferry ports.  You will also find information on how you can get directions for journeys from other starting points.  


We are easily accessible for those travelling without their own transport.  Roundwood is on the route of the St. Kevin's Bus, which operates a twice daily service to and from Dublin city centre.  You will find timetable information at http://www.glendaloughbus.com/index.html

When coming from Dublin to Roundwood sometimes GPS will direct you to come over the Sally Gap, which is a remote mountain road.  The more direct route to Roundwood is via the M50 motorway.    

Directions from the Wicklow Way (from Enniskerry/Knockree, heading southwards)

The Skylark's Rest is approximately 20km from Knockree (18km on the Way and 2km on the road from the Wicklow Way towards Roundwood village).  Shortly after Ballinafunshoge woods the Wicklow Way rejoins the road at the junction signposted for Roundwood (see photo opposite).  It's 2km from this junction to The Skylark's Rest, which will be on your left as you make your way towards Roundwood village.



Directions from the Wicklow Way (from Glendalough, heading northwards)

The Way takes you from Glendalough, past Laragh and starts to climb uphill.   After approx 6-7km it rejoins the road.  A further 2.5km along the road, the Way crosses over the Avonmore River at Oldbridge.  At this point, the Way ascends for approx 2km (still on the road).  At the top of this hill, there is a signposted junction for Roundwood (see photos opposite).  It's 2km from here to The Skylark's Rest, which will be on your left as you make your way towards Roundwood village.



Directions from Dublin Airport

  1. From the airport follow the signs for Dublin and M1.

  2. Join the M1 motorway southbound (signposted Dublin).

  3. Leave the M1 at junction 1 and follow the signs at the roundabout for the M50 southbound.

  4. Remain on the M50 southbound, which will continue onto the M11 motorway (signposted Wexford) and this in turn will continue onto the N11 (signposted Wexford).  This section of the journey is approximately 45km.

  5. Leave the N11 at the exit signposted Roundwood/Glendalough and follow the signs for Roundwood/Glendalough on the R755.

  6. On arriving in Roundwood village, turn right immediately after the black and white painted Roundwood Inn (L1059, signposted Lough Dan).  The Skylark's Rest is 500 metres up this road on the right.

The journey time from Dublin airport is approximately one hour but this can vary depending on traffic conditions.



Directions from Dublin city centre

  1. Follow the signs from the city centre for the M50.

  2. Join the M50 heading southbound.

  3. Remain on the M50 southbound, which will continue onto the M11 motorway (signposted Wexford) and this in turn will continue onto the N11 (signposted Wexford).  This section of the journey is approximately 30km.

  4. Leave the N11 at the exit signposted Roundwood/Glendalough and follow the signs for Roundwood/Glendalough on the R755.

  5. On arriving in Roundwood village, turn right immediately after the black and white painted Roundwood Inn (L1059, signposted Lough Dan).  The Skylark's Rest is 500 metres up this road on the right.

The journey time from Dublin city centre is approximately one hour but this can vary depending on traffic conditions.



Directions from Dun Laoghaire ferry port 

  1. At the traffic signals at the harbour exit, turn left onto Harbour Road.

  2. Continue to the roundabout and take the third exit.

  3. Continue straight through the traffic lights onto R118, Marine Road.

  4. At the traffic lights at the top of Marine Road, turn left onto Upper George's Street (R119).

  5. Turn right at the next set of trafic lights (approx. 1km) onto the R118, Lower Glenageary Road.  From here, follow the signposts for the M11/N11 (signposted Wicklow/Wexford).

  6. Leave the N11 at the exit signposted Roundwood/Glendalough and follow the signposts for Roundwood/Glendalough on the R755

  7. On arriving in Roundwood village, turn right immediately after the black and white painted Roundwood Inn (L1059, signposted Lough Dan).  The Skylark's Rest is 500 metres up this road on the right.

The journey time from Dun Laoghaire is approximately 45 minutes.



Directions from Rosslare ferry port

  1. From the ferry port, turn left onto Cliff Road/N25 and remain on N25.

  2. After approx. 14km at the Rosslare Road roundabout, take the first exit onto the N25 (signposted Cork).

  3. At the Duncannon Road roundabout, take the second exit onto the N25 (signposted Cork).

  4. At the New Ross Road roundabout, take the second exit onto the N11 (signposted Dublin).

  5. Remain on the N11/M11 following signs for Dublin for approximately 85km.

  6. Leave the M11 at exit 16 (signposted Ashford/Rathnew/Roundwood).  At the roundabout, take the first exit onto the R772 (signposted Ashford).

  7. Continue through the village of Ashford.

  8. At the roundabout, take the first exit onto the R764 (signposted Roundwood).  Remain on the R764 following the signposts for Roundwood.

  9. On entering the village, turn right at the T junction facing the church onto the R755.

  10. Take the first left onto the L1059 (signposted Lough Dan). The Skylark's Rest is 500 metres up this road on the right.

The journey time from Rosslare ferry port is approximately two hours. 



Journeys from other starting points

For all other journeys, visit www.aaireland.ie/routes for detailed route planning.  Insert 'Roundwood' as destination and follow directions.  Once you arrive in the village of Roundwood, take the L1059 (signposted Lough Dan), which is adjacent to the black and white painted Roundwood Inn.  The Skylark's Rest is 500 metres up this road on the right.
